Bug List%@$^&$%$$#!!!
What about Hospitals why are they so hard to navigate?
Why does every room look like the next. Problem arose when touring WVU Health Center!
Noticed that all the markers and signals that direct you to certain areas were above my head.
I wonder why i didn't notice it? < me being sarcastic. Oh, yeah and the ones that were at eye level really didn't stand out to me. Question couldn't this be a potiental health risk if you can't find where your going in a hospital? Hopefully the area that I was in was just the school of Medicine and Research, because students don't really need to find there way to class, or do they.

Yes, this is a bug, and deserves to be on your bug list. It sounds like what it needs is a good signage system. A signage system in and of itself is not necessarily innovative. Environmental Designers have been fashioning these for a long time. There would have to be some really creative thought put into innovative methods of wayfinding.
I totally know what you mean about the signs and if you missed it standing up, how could someone in a wheelchair see it.
To play devil's advocate, can you think of reasons for the signs to be where they are? If the halls are crowded with people, would you be able to see signs on the walls?
i'm with jack. there has to be a better way to help someone navigate through a building. it's not just hsc that's a labyrinth... the cac has maps posted places and i can't even figure out where i am on them. let alone which way to go from there.
Maybe as people walk in, they're handed a gps device that they can consult while they're meandering through the labyrinth! this would be kind of cool -- a blinking dot could represent you as you're traveling down hallways... hm, i guess this would be too crazy expensive and high-tech though! I agree - wvu hospitals is a nightmare to navigate. I was limping last week and had to make my way through ruby back to the Health Sciences Center - wow was that fun.
I met with someone last semester for the Asthma Project in health sciences. This is how complicated her directions are. She even had me lie and say I had an appointment with student health so that I could park in the best parking space for her directions. ;)I thought you would all find these interesting.
From Van Voorhis, turn toward the medical center. As the road forks, bear left toward the Emergency Room (ER). Passing the ER, proceed to the parking booth. Tell the guard that you have an appointment with Student Health.
Enter through the Cancer Center, bearing left. Go through 2 sets of double doors. You will see the Health Science Cafeteria in front of you. Turn left and take the public elevator to the 4th floor.
Follow the "darker" hallway. You will pass OB-GYN on the right and Pediatrics on left. When you come to a "T" intersection (stairs and water fountain at the end of the hall), take a right and an immediate left. My office is ****.
(Then she left me her beeper, cell phone, office phone numbuers incase I had problems. I did make it. but aren't these a bit complicated!?)
